The Banquet of Love Visualization

Someone once led me through this visualization years ago, to help me speak about something. Something that matters, without turning it into judgment or harshness.

It’s a way to approach truth with love. With beauty. And as an offering.

You're going to close your eyes. Gently settle. Maybe lying down or seated comfortably… just arrive.

Feel the ground beneath you. Let your body rest.

Notice your breath. The coolness of the inhale. The warmth of the exhale.

And now, start to notice a path. A narrow one. It opens up just ahead of you, leading into a forest. Let yourself step onto it. You start walking. Do you feel the uneven stones beneath your feet? Are there pebbles or large slate stones? Or are there soft leaves underfoot?

Now you begin to notice the thick vegetation enveloping you. The forest is dense, green, quiet. Trees rise on either side. The air shifts… you feel the coolness of the forest.

You begin to walk.

The path is winding, but clear. No thorns catch your skin. You keep walking until you reach a clearing. And in the middle of the clearing, there’s an oversized wooden table in the forest.

It’s set with care. Food arranged in beautiful bowls and plates. Things you love. Or things someone once made for you. Sweet things, warm things, things with texture, with color, with intention.

Maybe there are candles. Maybe flowers. It’s the kind of table where love is visible. Offered.

It's all the most beautiful delicacies you would want to offer someone—or that someone would offer to you—as a gesture of love.

Notice this food.

It's the kind of food made as an offering for the gods.

This is your banquet.

And now, I want you to invite someone to it.

Someone you need to speak to. Someone with whom something’s still open. Unspoken. A truth that you’re ready to give: not just to them, but to yourself.

So imagine them arriving. Walking toward the table. Sitting down across from you.

Take in the look on their face. Receiving this place. Receiving you.

And when you’re ready, say what needs to be said.

Let it come however it comes. Maybe appreciation. Maybe truth. A naming. Something you’ve been carrying.

Maybe your offering is a kind of honesty. Maybe even a truth you’ve been afraid to speak.

Offer it the way you’d offer food. Something nourishing. Something that can be digested. Let it be shaped by care. And how can you say it in a way they’ll truly hear it, take it in, and feel it, without contempt or harm or harshness?

Use this place, this banquet of love, as the place you step from to share. Speak it now.

And once it’s been spoken, pause. Feel what you said.

Let the silence settle. Feel what’s there.

Notice how your body feels. Do you feel complete? Is there anything that still needs to be reshaped, softened, clarified? No rush.

Breathe into it.

Breathe into how it feels to share.

And how it is for them to receive.

Maybe a conversation starts.

Be there.

You find yourself receptive. In a state of offering.

They are soft in receiving whatever you are gifting.

Remember, even harsh truths can be acts of love.

Find the truth. The compassion.

The necessary complexities.

And the freedom in sharing them.

Imagine both yourself and them in this generous gifting of love and truth. Breathe it in.

Breathe into the gift of what you’ve just offered.

And when you’re ready, imagine standing. Slowly. Without hurrying.

Take one last look at the table. Let it stay as it is.

You don’t need to clear anything. You don’t need to fix anything.

Just let it remain.

You don’t have to carry it.

Just know it’s there.

And then begin walking back.

Step by step.

Down the forest path.

The trees part gently as you pass.

The air shifts, denser and warmer, as you leave the forest.

You’re retracing your steps.

And you can feel your body again.

The weight of it. The support of the earth.

Take a deeper breath now.

Let it settle you.

And when you're ready let yourself return to the room you’re in. Feel your body in space.

Notice the contact points with the ground.

No need to rush.

Just come back. Slowly. And breathe.
